10 years back Run movie was released. At that time, people liked Run for its freshness, songs, comedy and single line story with an awesome screenplay. I think Lingusamy has tried to make a similar kind of movie in 2012 with 4 leading artists on board. Vettai trailer was launched in August 2011, and the trailer looked damn impressive. That created some kind of expectations and hype for this movie. As usual during audio release function, Vettai team spoke gr8 about the movie and created extra hype.

Initially it was slated for Diwali release, then it was shifted to December release and finally it has been released for Pongal. Does this movie live up to the expectations created by its own team members??? Definitely the answer is No. Read the entire review to find out what went wrong in Lingusamy’s multi starrer movie.

Story Analysis:

Gurumoorthy(Madhavan) and Tirumoorthy(Arya) are brothers. Right from childhood Guru is coward and he gets scared for everything. Guru always expects his brother’s help to face all the problems. Their father is a police officer, one fine day he departs from this world due to health issues. Government gives Police officer post to Guru and he accepts that post and become a Police Officer. Tiru helps Guru to solve all his problems. As days go on, Guru gets into problem with local villains like Annachi(Rana) and other one named Mari. The remaining movie is all about how Guru and Tiru join together and demolish all the villains living in that town.

On the other side, Vasanthi(Sameera Reddy) and Jayanthi(Amala paul) are sisters. Vasanthi gets married with Guru, during their marriage eve, Tiru falls in love with Jayanthi.

Cast and Crew Analysis:

Other than Maddy, no one else could have done the role of coward police, kudos to Maddy for accepting this kind of role and coming out with brilliant performance. Arya looks cool and confident. Be it dance or stunt sequence, he simply rocked. After Vaaranam Ayiram, Sameera Reddy got a special character that suits her very much and Chinmayi’s voice added extra value to that character. I would say, this is the career best movie for Amala Paul.

Supporting artists like Nazzer, Thambi Ramiah, Rana etc… did their job well. Yuvan’s music was utter waste. Songs acted as speed breaker and background score had lot of Manaktha’s influence. Excellent camera work by Nirav Shah and editing by Antony was perfect.

In spite of having so many plus point mentioned above, there is only only minus point. Its Lingusamy’s fault to make a movie with out a proper story and engaging screenplay. Though the movie had few mind-blowing scenes, it can be enjoyed only in parts. Lets hope Lingusamy takes care of story and songs in the next movie.

General Analysis:

The movie started off with a typical Tamil cinema style scenes involving flash back of two brothers followed by hero’s intro song and that song was followed by heroine’s intro song. That means within the first 15 mins, two songs appeared.  Soon after that song, the film gets its momentum and as I mentioned early, songs appeared here and there and made movie bored.Second half was totally out of the phase. Especially the scenes involving foreign mappilai were unnecessary. With a typical Lingusamy movie’s climax fight, Vettai comes to an end.

Vettai is a movie which can be watched once without any expectations and its a must to ignore all the songs.

When 3 idiots was released, Me and my friends watched that movie on the day of release with a fully packed theater. We enjoyed each and every scene and whole theater was screaming like anything. As soon as I came out of theater of the movie, I just had one doubt in my mind. Can this movie be remade my in Tamil? If so, who will be the director & who will play the lead role?  When Nanban was launched, So many people including me were against this remake and so many made fun of Vijay playing Amir’s role. But now after watching Nanban, I would say “ Other than Vijay, no one else would have done justice to that role” Shocked to hear this statement??? The film starts off with Venkat(Srikanth), Senthil(Jeeva) and Srivatsan(sathyan) travelling by a car to find out their friend Pari(Vijay) who is not in touch with any of his classmates. As the journey continues character Venkat speaks about his college life and his friends.

Pari is an outstanding student, who wishes to bring change in our educational system. That leads him to face so many problem with his principal Virumandi santhanam(Sathya Raj). Riya(Illeana) daughter of virus falls in love with Pari.

Senthil is a middle class student whose aim is to complete the studies and get placed in campus interview.

Venkat’s aim is to become a wild life photographer, but his parents force him to become an Engineer.

The remaining movie is all about, whether the dreams of Senthil and Venkat have come true? Why all of a sudden Pari disappeared after the convocation ceremony without telling any of his friends? How Senthil and Venkat manage to find Pari? What happens to Pari-Riya Love?

Cast and Crew Analysis:

It’s a challenge for Vijay to play Amir Khan’s role, but he acted very well. I would say, it’s the top class matured performance from Vijay. His body suits very well as a college student and no one else in Kollywood has the body to act as a college student. Hope he selects script like this and stay on top of the Box-Office.

Jeeva has a tailor-made role in this movie and he acted well. It’s a come back movie for Srikanth. Hope he acts in character oriented roles and stay alive in Kollywood.

Illeana played the female lead, she doesn’t deserve to be a part of this movie, be it acting, body language or voice modulation etc.. Ileana couldn’t pull the rabbit out of the hat. She should have been replaced with some other bubbly actress.

Supporting actors like Sathya Raj, Sathyan, S.J Suryah, Anuya acted very well. Vijay Tv fame Rinson made his debut in silver screen through this movie. I am sure he is gonna be seen in many movies.

Excellent camera work done by Manoj. Editor Antony should have cut here and there in the second half. After a long time, Harris Jeyaraj has given some good songs and background score. But I am not at all impressed by the way songs are choreographed. In how many more sankar movies, we gonna see road paintings/train paintings etc ??

Few words about he captain of the Ship Director Sankar… Hats off to him for remaking scene-by-scene and retaining the original feel of the movie. But the X factor of sankar movie is totally missing. I mean the richness, costly feel etc is missing..It needs guts to remake such a blockbuster movie from hindi and serve it to Tamil audience.

General Analysis:

People who haven’t watched 3 idiots can blindly go and watch this movie. I am sure you people will like the movie and come out of the theater with smiling face.

People who have already seen 3 idiots, kindly watch the movie without any comparison between Vijay-Amir or Illeana-Kareena etc.. Consider this movie as a fresh Tamil Movie and enjoy it.

When I watched Dabaang last year, I personally liked the movie coz of one man show by Salman. When the news came like it’s gonna be remade by Simbhu , I was literally shocked. The only hope which I had on Dabaang remake is director Dharani. I thought he will inspire from Dabaang and write his own screenplay and direct the movie in a way which will suit for TamilNadu commercial cinema audience. But Dharani instead of remaking, he just retook the movie by replacing the cast and crew members of the original version. What went wrong in Osthi??? Read the entire review and find out .

Story Analysis:

People who have already seen Dabaang, can ignore this story Analysis. The story is same as the original version.

Osthi Velan(Simbhu) is a corrupt local Inspector in Tirunelveli district, his part-time job is to steal black money from politicians and give it to public. He lives with his mother(Revathy). Velan has a step brother Balan(Jithan Ramesh) and step father(Nazzer). Daniel(Sonu Sood) a local politician Cum Boxer. Balan falls in love with Saranya Mohan. Velan falls in love with Neduvali(Richa), a village gal who is a pot maker. Situation makes Velan and Daniel to play the usual cat and mouse game. As usual hero kills the villan and the movie comes to an end.

Cast and Crew Analysis:

Simbhu played the lead role. Though he acted well, he just imitated Salman in many places. He should have acted in his own style. Richa’s Debut Movie(But Mayakkam Enna released early), She just walked here and there and appeared in 3 songs. It’s a comeback movie for jithan Ramesh, I think he can start acting in character oriented movies instead of acting as Hero. Rest of the members like Revathy, Nazzar, VTV Ganesh, Thambi Ramiah, Santhanam & CO did their part well. Santhanam can be considered as the second hero of the movie. Day by day, he is getting better. Its time for Vadivelu and Vivek to go home.

I don’t have to say anyting about Thaman’s chart buster songs. But Choreography should have been better. Regarding background score, its heavily inspired from Original version. Gopinath’s camera work was good. Dharani’s X factor was completely missing in this movie and that can be considered as the biggest drawback of the movie.

People who have already seen the original version can stay away from it, If you still wish to see Osthi, please watch the movie without comparing with the original version. Over all, Osthi is a time pass movie which can be watched once without having any kind of expectations. As they show in the trailer, don’t expect another Dhil, Dhool, Ghilli and enter the theater like me and get disappointed:-)

I don’t have time to write a review for this movie in my usual format:-) But still i will pen down all the points as short as possible..

Nadodigal gang is back with Poraali.. This movie was under production for more than a year. Regarding cast and crew, its the same group of ppl like sasi kumar, kanja karupu, swathi and telegu actor Naresh has joined in this group.

Regarding story, its very much clear and simple. The movie starts of with kumaran(sasi kumar) and his friend(Naresh) killing someone and leaving to Chennai. Their aim is to go to chennai and settle there by doing some decent job and live as they wish. They join in a petrol pump and do some side business. One fine day, a group of ppl chase kumaran and come to chennai. The remaining story is all about, who are those ppl? what they want from kumaran? does kumaran kill all them? With the answers for the above mentioned questions the movie comes to an end.

Best brothers of kollywood are back to silver screen after 5 years with Mayakkam Enna.  Expectations for this movie was very low until the songs were released, but after the audio launch due to the chart buster songs, expectations were at the peak. Hats off to Selva and his team for being active in Twitter and marketing movie to their target audience. Does the movie live up to the expectations??? The answer is “YES”.

Story Analysis:

Karthik Swaminathan (Dhanush) a photographer, his only aim in life is to become a wild life photographer. He & his sister lives with a group of friends. Sundar is a close friend of karthik. One fine day, Sundar brings his gal friend Yamini (Richa) to introduce his gang members. Right from day one, Karthik & Yamini keep on fighting but at a certain point of time, they both fall in love with each other.

The remaining story is about, how does Karthik marry his close friend’s gal friend?? An accident turns Karthik into Psycho.. Can he come back to his normal life and succeed in his career as a wild life photographer?? The answer to all these questions forms the second half of the movie.

Cast & Crew Analysis:

National award winner Dhanush simply rocked,, I think he acted better than KP karupu in Aadukalam. He might get one more national award for his tremendous acting. Debut actress Richa competed with Dhanush in every frame and she acted very well. No one will say that, this is her debut movie.

No words to describe GV Prakash’s music department. Be it songs or BGM(few ppl claim that he has copied from Hollywood), he simply stole the entire show. Like other movies, songs never acted as a speed breaker. In-fact they should have added Ennana seidhom song to the movie. Cinematographer Ramji can be considered as the backbone of this movie. His work behind the lens was too too good.  Kola Basker’s editing work was crisp and clear.

I don’t have anything to say about Selva’s direction. Definitely this movie is one of his master piece. It needs guts to take a movie like Mayakkam Enna in his own creative style and he has tried to take tamil cinema to the next level.

Other ppl (who prefers masala or time pass movies) kindly stay away from this movie. This movie is not for you. Please don’t watch this movie and comment about this movie as Psycho movie or Psycho director etc..

Mayakkam Enna = Short and Sweet Romantic First half + Emotional Second Half.

Velayudham can be considered as the costliest Vijay movie ever made in Tamil Cinema and it has been under production for more than a year. Expectations were very high, since its releasing after the grand success of Kavalan and it’s the only movie released against the sci-fi movie 7am Arivu for this Diwali.

Story Analysis:

Velayudham(Vijay) an ordinary man who lives in a village along with his sweet little sister(Saranya Mohan). The only aim of Velu is make sure that his sister’s life is well settled in Chennai after her marriage. Velu along with his sister and cousin Vaidehi(Hansika) travel to Chennai to draw their money from a Chit Fund and buy all the necessary things for the marriage.

On the other side, Bharathi(Genelia) a T.V journalist tries to cover corruption activities happening in Chennai. During that process, bad guys chase Bharathi & her friends. Then they end up killing her 2 friends. Later those bad guys meet up with an accident and die on the spot. Bharathi witness that accident and create an imaginary character named Velayudham. She also writes a note that Velayudham killed those bad guys and he will continue killing people who are disturbing the peace of Chennai.

Fate makes Bharathi & Velu to meet each other, and she makes Velu to give life to the imaginary character created by her. Then the usual cat and mouse game starts between hero (Velayudham) and other villains (Home Minister & co). With an interesting climax and a powerful message, the movie comes to an end.

Cast and Crew Analysis:

After a long time, Vijay closed his mouth (w/o uttering Punch dialogues) and acted in a commercial masala movie. As usual, his dance, comic sense and acting were good. Though Genelia tried to act well, she partially succeeded in her task. Hansika played the role of village gal and she did her part well. Santhanam’s comedy track was too good and once again he has proved that he is the best in recent times.

Vijay Antony’s Background score and Music was good. Chillax and Molachu Moonu can be considered as the pick of the album. Director Raja proved that he is capable of making action movies too. Full credits should go to him for adding all kind of masala elements in a correct proposition. If any other director other than Raja directs the same movie, then Velayudham would have been yet another Sura or Vettaikaran.

General Analysis:

First half was racy and too good with some 3 songs and comedies. Second half was too slow when compared to the first half. Few scenes should have been eliminated in the second half in order to increase the speed of the movie. The climax scene resembled Anniyan film’s scene in which Anniyan appear in front of public people. Instead of hero killing villain in the climax, they have tried out something different in this movie and it worked out very well.

On the whole, Velayudham is a movie which can be seen with the entire family and it’s the best among the diwali release movies. Don’t miss this movie at any cause, because it’s difficult to see a silent Vijay in a commercial masala movie like velayudham

7am Arivu is the one of the movie which had very huge expectations right from the date of launch. Ghajini team is back to silver screen, naturally ppl will expect a better movie than Ghajini..But this 7am arivu cant even be compared with Ghajini..Though, its a different try in tamil cinema, the way Murugadoss handled the movie looked very kiddish,,,Cant even imagine, he is the one who directed movies like Ghajini, Ramana and Dheena..Read the entire review to find-out what went wrong…

Story Analysis:

The movie starts off with the history (16th century) of Bodidharma which is available in internet. I don’t have patience to re-narrate the entire history..Interested people please click this link(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhidharma) and read the history.

Followed by the history of Bodhidharma, the movie travels to 2011. Subha (Sruthi Hassan) a genetic engg student, who does a research on Bodhidharman. Her aim is to inject Bodhidharman’s DNA into Aravind(Surya), whose DNA matches with Bodhidharman’s DNA.

On the other side, Dong lee comes to Chennai from China in order to start the bio-war as well as to kill Subha who is interested to bring back Bodhidharman. The remaining movie is all about how Subha & co brings back Bodhidharman and stop the bio war.

Cast and Crew Analysis:

As usual Surya acted well, can’t blame him for the movie’s failure. Sruthi Hassan should go for a special coaching class to his father and learn how to act, very worst acting and voice modulation. Why can’t she ask some other person to dub for her??  The foreigner who acted as Dong Lee did his job well, but at the later stage, his repeated hypnotism made the audience to feel bored of it.

No words to describe Ravi K Chandran’s Camera work, it was cool and breezy. Music and Background score of Harris Jeyaraj was a big letdown.  Mr Harris, how many more years you gonna rehash your own tunes???  Please start composing new tunes in your future projects.

Director Murugadoss tried mix commercial elements with unknown history and make a blockbuster movie, but he failed miserably.  If the same movie has been made without commercial elements, then 7am arivu would have been a perfect documentary movie about Bodhidharman.

General Analysis:

First 15 mins was too too slow. Life of Bodhidharman was showed like a documentary movie. Director should have narrated the history within 5 minutes and moved on to the main story. Romance part was totally out of the phase and songs appeared here and there spoiled the essence of the movie. For the first time in the history of Tamilcinema, we can see Hero getting scared of Villain and running away from him.  The second half was easily predictable and the audience knew what is going to happen in the climax. They dragged the movie with unwanted scenes in the second half and with the predicted climax, the movie comes to an end.

The message of the movie is “all the ppl should know the history of south Indian people and in many places; there are scenes which focus the importance of Tamil and Tamil culture. If that is the case, why the hell character Subha (Sruthi Hassan) speaks tanglish throughout the movie. Even during that thesis presentation scene, she scolds others for not speaking in Tamil but she alone used so many English words in that scene.

Hypnotism, Bio-war, operation red, DNA etc., are few terms which can’t be understood by a laymen. I am sure, this movie will suffer a lot in B and C Centers.

This movie has also taught others, how not to market a movie. The way producer/director/actor spoke about the movie prior to the release, created such a high hype and expectations. That’s the reason of this movie’s failure.

A good movie should speak by itself, not the ones who are part of the movie. Let this movie be a lesson for other director/producer/actor who is thinking that their word of mouth about the movie will make the movie run. They should remember that word of mouth of the public people is the one needed for movie’s victory at the box office.

Engeyum Eppodhum(EE) is the first movie produced by Famous Director A.R Murugadoss and Hollywood producer Fox Studios is entering into Kollywood through this movie. To be frank, this movie didn’t carry any pre-release as the movie is directed by a debut Director Saravanan. When people enter into theatre without any expectation, will they be satisfied with the movie when they come out of the theatre???? The answer is Strictly NO. Read the entire review to find out what went out wrong.

Story Analysis:

The movie starts off with Amudha (Ananya) coming to Chennai for an interview. As she is new to Chennai, she expects help from Gautham (Saravanand) to go to the interview spot. When they travel together, they fall in love with each other but they fail to express it. On the other side, Kadhireasan(Jai) and Anjali are neighbors in Trichy. As usual they both love each other.

Kadhireasan wants to take Anjali to his native place (Vilupuram).So both of them travel from Trichy to Vilupuram by Airbus & Gautham is one of the co-passenger who travels in the same bus. Amudha takes another Airbus from Chennai and travel to Trichy to confess her love to Gautham. Unfortunately both the bus bang each other on a National Highway and more than 40 people die on the spot. The remaining story is about what happens to the two couples. With so called emotional climax the movie comes to an end.

Cast & Crew Analysis:

The main 4 characters played by Jai, Anjali, Ananya and Saravanand. All of them gave their best and tried to compete with each other throughout the movie. Apart from these 4 main characters, many people used as supporting character in few scenes. Music composed by Sathya. Other than Govinda song and one more melody, none of the songs impressed me. Background score was dull and made the movie to look like megaserial in the second half.

Debut Director Saravanan should have concentrated more on story rather than focusing on other aspects of the movie. Screen Play was sluggish, I have never seen this kind of worst screen play in any movie. Inspite of working as assistant director under Murgadoss for many years, he failed to create the magic in his debut movie.

General Analysis:

As I mentioned early, only the love episode involving lead couples can be watched without any hesitation. Other than that, the remaining part of the movie was big bore. Towards the end, the movie totally went out of phase and the climax was very irritating. Towards the end(last 15 mins), I had the effect of seeing Simbhu’s Vaanam movie Climax.

Over all, it’s a kind of movie which can be skipped from watching in theatre. If you are so bored and don’t know what to do, then go and enjoy the first half and few scenes in the second half(till Climax)

By the time I post Mankatha Review, I am sure 60 % of the Tamil Cinema Audience might have seen the movie.. I know it’s too late, But I feel privileged to write something about my favorite Hero Thala Ajith..

Asal Movie was released on Feb 5th 2010. After seeing that movie, all the Ajith fans(Including Me) felt a lot for seeing Thala in such a hope less movie, that happened to be Thala’s 49th Movie.. Within couple of days, we got some good news that, Gautham Menon is gonna direct Ajith’s 50th movie.. But that news lasted only for few days.. Kireedam Fame Vijay and Vishnuvardhan were under consideration for the 50th Movie, as usual they too didn’t get the chance.

At last, Venkatprabhu roped in Thala for his next project. And Mankatha Teaser was released along with Naan Mahan Alla movie. Yet again Ajith Fans were not happy to see Ajith with Grey Hair and Fat Body.  With So many disappointments, Mankatha was started.

Entire Mankatha (Except Ajith) were active members of Twitter and Facebook. The way, they used to update latest news about Mankatha, created huge hype.. During the time of release, Dhayanidhi Alagiri couldn’t release the movie due to so many problems. Then Sun Pics and Radan came to rescue Mankatha and released on Aug 31 2011.

Inspite of facing so many problems and hype created through social networking sites, does the movie live up to the expectations??? Read the entire review and find out…

Story Analysis:

Arumuga Chettiar (Jayaprakash) is a local rowdy living in Mumbai, his main interest is to do lot of illegal business and gambling. During IPL Finals, Some people plan to bring 500 Crores of betting money to Mumbai through Arumuga Chettiar’s network. Sumanth(Vaibhav) works under Chettiar. Sumanth, along with 3 other friends device a plan to rob that betting money before it reaches Chettiar.

The other three friends are:

• Prem(Premj) — Brilliant IIT Student
• Ganesh(Ashwin) — Police Officer
• Mahanth(Mahanth) — Bar Owner

On the other side, Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith) suspended Police officer, keeps track of the 4 boys and comes to know about the entire plan of the robbery. Later Vinayak too join with them and they steal the entire 500 Crores and keep it in a warehouse. Prithivi(Arjun) is a police officer who investigates betting mafia related case. The second half is all about, how prithivi catches the entire 5 people and what happens to that 500 crores and who takes it finally. With some twist and turn, the movie comes to an end with a positive note.. And I don’t want to disclose the climax..

Cast & Crew Analysis:

Thala Ajith played the lead role along with ‘n’ number of Supporting artists. He simply rocked in every frame and fans gonna remember the character Vinayak forever. Action King Arjun did his part well, It’s gr8 to see a leading actor like Arjun being a part of another hero’s landmark movie. Hope this kind of combo appears in forth coming movies.

Trisha, Anjali, Lakshmi Rai and Andrea Played the female lead, they can proudly say that, they have acted in Ajith’s 50th Movie. All of them did their part well. I don’t need comment about Jayaprakash’s acting. Regarding 4 boys(Vaibhav, Premji, Ashwin and Mahanth), Premji and Vaibhav acted very well and made their presence felt in the movie. The other 2 guys just wandered here and there in the movie, they should have been replaced by some other well known matured guys.

Yuvan’s Backgroud score was good and regarding songs, other than Vilayadu Manaktha and Machi open the bottle, none of the songs impressed the Audience. He should have took special care of songs. Sakthi Saravanan’s camera work was good and he gave a different feel to the movie. Captain of the ship Mr Venkat prabhu, being an Ajith fan for more than a decade, he knows the audience pulse and came out with a lifetime memorable movie. It’s a perfect way to complete the Half Century. Hats off to vp for making Ajith to act, laugh, dance, scream, fight etc..etc.. after a long time.

General Analysis:

First Half was too slow. 2 Songs(Kanadi ne and Va da bin leda) acted as a speed breaker. They should have removed it, so that the length of the first half would have been reduced. No comments about the second half, It was too speed. Climax twist can be considered as the best part of the movie.

Pre-interval chess game scene was good as well as all the bike and car stunts rocked.Once the movie gets over, VP showed some bloopers which was shot during the shooting. That idea was innovative and it showed the other side of Thala Ajith during shooting.

On the whole, Manaktha is a comical action entertainer which can be seen more than once without any hesitation. Don’t miss Mankatha @ any cause,which is considered as Thala’s Landmark(50*) Movie. Please don’t leave the theatre without seeing that Bloopers which is shown along with end credits.
