2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,200 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Velai Illa Pattadhaari

1st Half –> Rehash of Dhanush’s earlier stage movies like Padikathavan/Polladhavan/Yaradi nee mohini/thiruvilayadal arambam etc… I mean the same jobless role/drinking and singing with friends.. But still its “Entertaining”

2nd Half –> All of a sudden, the movie turns into serious mode & villain comes into action. Then the usual cat & mouse game between hero & villain(Boring Stuff) lasts till the climax.(BTW Climax was so stupid)

Surabhi/Amala Paul/Vivek wasted in the movie.

Mr Dhanush, this is just 25th movie & u have a long way to go. Y imitating u r father in law in too many scenes? If u continue to do so, u will lose your identity.

Over all, an above average movie which can be watched once for the sake of few songs and first half.

Rating –> 2.75/5

Arima Nambi

Arima Nambi –> The same old kidnap story(old wine in old bottle). Few movies will have an excellent first half and pathetic second half, this movie too falls into that category..

First half was racy/interesting & looks like second half was taken for granted.. Climax was ok. RD Rajasekar’s camera work was good. Drums Sivamani’s music was not appealing. Wish they trimmed lot of unwanted scenes in the second half.

Vikram Prabhu is yet to choose a right script after Kumki.. Priya Anand has got noting much to do in this movie.

Watch it at u r own risk.. But If you have decided to watch it, then – DON’T SEE ANY LOGIC.

Rating –> 2.75/5

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum(VMP) –> Only very few directors think of something out of the box and present the same without making any-kind of commercial compromise.. Dr Balaji Mohan falls into that category…

Romance/father-son relationship/Media/Politics in Cinema Industry etc portrayed in a different way(2nd half – No one speaks). Freshness prevails throughout the movie- that’s the main USP of the movie. Perfect casting is an added advantage.

Go for it.. U wont be disappointed…

Rating –> 3.75/5

Tenali Raman

Tenali Raman –> comedy king Vadivelu is back with a bang after 2 years of rest due to various political reasons..

Vadivelu’s acting
Story (what will happen if FDI is allowed in India)
Imman’s BGM
Ending bloopers
Perfect casting and CG works

Too slow Screenplay
Romance part + duets

Rating –> 3/5

Verdict: it’s not so good as Imsai arasan 23am pulikesi.. & at the same , it’s not too bad as indralogathil na algappan.. Can be watched once.

Naan Sigappu Manithan

Naan Sigappu Manithan –> First of all hats-off to dir Thiru for thinking something different and presenting the same with a hero who has sleeping disorder(Narcolepsy)..

Vishal & Lakshmi Menon chemistry/performance – Top class. Almost every other supporting cast members did their part well except Sundar Ram. GV Prakash should have taken extra care on Songs & it fell in wrong places..

Fun filled first half + unexpected happenings in the second half(though it may not work with few family audience) with a good climax makes the movie an awesome romantic thriller which is worth watching.. Go for it…

Rating –> 3.5/5

Maan Karate

Maan Karate –> Few movies will have excellent first half and the second half will be exactly opposite to the first half.. Maan Karate falls into that category.

The director failed to blend comedy, action, romance etc., in a proper way.. Most of the time, Siva make us laugh & all of a sudden he turns into serious mode(Climax fight) which is unbelievable. Maan Karate boxer punching skilled boxer & winning championship is too much..

Performance wise, Maan Karate is the best movie for Siva Karthikeyan. He has improved a lot in various departments like acting/dancing/dialogue delivery/body language/dressing..

Siva Karthikeyan’s fans will like it & others can watch it once for the sake of excellent first half + Anirudh’s peppy songs which are well choreographed.

On a general note, I personally felt A R Murugadoss should have written the screenplay along with his story. Debut director Thirukumaran missed to hit the jackpot in-spite of having excellent cast & crew members.

Rating –> 2.75/5
